The Fountain that sits front and center in Fountain Park, on the corner of 7th St. and Market St. has a mysterious story. Many believe it was the same fountain that used to adorn the center crossroad of Emmitsburg late in the last 19th Century. The Emmitsbrug Fountain, identical to the 7th Street Fountain, was erected in mid-October 1884. The fountain was removed in 1927, as automobiles replaced horse and buggy. There are many folktales surrounding the fate of the fountain, one of which is that it ended up in 7th Street's Fountain Park.
The Wisteria blooms on the trellis bordering Fountain Park.

To read of the history of the Emmitsburg Fountain, here is a lengthy, but very interesting article on the Emmitsburg Historical Society Website. What do you think... is it the same fountain?
