The Old Court House  -  This is the third Court house built in Frederick, built in1862 after the burning of the previous court house in 1861, during which time the Maryland legislature debated secession. There is a lot of mystery behind the burning, some suspected arson to keep the legislature from voting to seceed.  The first court house was begun in 1750 and was built of wood; It had to be replaced in 1785. At this site in 1765, Frederick citizens burned effigies of government officials in protest of the Stamp Act.
